Our sincere thanks to the Environmental Officers from county councils all over Ireland who provided grant aid for this service through the Environmental Partnership Fund.
School book lists usually contain changes from last year's list which require parents to buy new books this year. This causes financial hardship for thousands of families, every year. We want to change that.
School book lists for 2010 are being written NOW: We're asking teachers to please FREEZE last years school book lists. That is, to re-use last years book list again this year.
This will facilitate the re-use of college and school books which are in use now.
This will allow the owners of books in use now to sell or exchange them to other families.
This will save other families a lot of money and will generate cash for the sellers.
This will also have a huge environmental impact:
Ten million college and school books are in use in Ireland today.
Every year, at least one million are either dumped or not re-used. We want to change that.
If school book lists are frozen, vast amounts of books will be re-used. This is a very practical way for every teacher and every family to create real positive change.
TEACHERS: Please FREEZE last years school book list and re-use it again this year.
PARENTS: Please ask your children's teachers to FREEZE last years school book lists.
